Frontier office in Brainard closing Friday afternoon

The Frontier Cooperative office in Brainard will be closed after 1:30 p.m. Friday so Butler County Public Power can work on the company's electrical system. The company notified The Banner-Press of the closing early Tuesday afternoon.


Meeting topic: Flood insurance, flood plain maps

A meeting has been set for 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 11, at the Butler County Courthouse for discussion of the National Flood Insurance Program and to discuss the Digital Flood Insurance Rate Map, (DFIRM) for Butler County and its cities and villages.

The meeting will be attended by officials from Butler County, David City, Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources and AMEC Earth and Environmental.

Harp and flute duo comes to DC March 14

Nebraska's professional harp and flute "Duo Adante will bring a special blend of music to David City for the Butler County Arts Council at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 14. This concert will include the baroque music of Leonardo Vinci, the romantic styles of Franz Lizst, medieval melodies and "song dreams" for flute and harp. It will be a great way to enjoy the afternoon at St. Luke's United Methodist Church at 620 D Street in David City.

Suggested donation at the door for adults is $8 and B.C.A.C. members are admitted free.

Brehm, Irons join Zavodny in mayoral race

The May 11 primary ballot will include a runoff for the office of mayor of David City.

Mayor Dana Trowbridge opted not to seek another term. Alan Zavodny filed for office on Feb. 16. Late last week, candidates Carol Brehm and John Irons joined in the race. The primary will cut the competition down to two for the November general election.

Two candidates each have filed for the City Council positions in the three wards. They will advance to the general election. For more election news, visit www.thebanner-press.com. 
 

Two races develop for primary election

The filing deadline for non-incumbents passed at 5 p.m. Monday, with only two races developing on the May 11 primary election ballot, the County Clerk's office reported.

Mayor Dana Trowbridge opted not to try for a second term. As of Monday, three candidates have stepped forward: Alan Zavodny, Carol Brehm and John Irons. The primary will determine which two will advance to the November election.

Former DCPD officer files federal lawsuit

A David City man has alleged that his free speech and due process rights were violated when he was terminated from his job as a city police officer.

Vincent Brehm, who was not re-appointed in December to the David City Police Department, recently filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Omaha.

Mayor Dana Trowbridge and City Attorney Jim Egr said they would make no comment on the case.

Brehm worked for the city more than 10 years before December.

Entries to focus on Roush paintings

Bone Creek Museum of Agrarian Art is working to achieve its mission "to be the National Center for preserving, viewing and learning about exceptional agrarian art."

As part of this goal, the Bone Creek Educational Outreach Committee is hosting a "Writing Contest" for students of all ages in conjunction with the museum's current art exhibition "Meditations from Missouri." Submissions can include poems, short stories or essays of no more than 500 words.

Committee to study former garden center, city office space

Two weeks after the citizens spoke strongly in favor of keeping the David City Police Department, the City Council is taking steps to find a station site and rebuild the police staff.
A special City Council meeting was held Monday night. The meeting was called on Feb. 17, too late for publication in last week's newspaper.
