AHS girls use depth to place fourth at Schuyler

Tuesday, April 28, 2009 - 6:37 pm

The Aquinas girls track team was missing one of its top performers, but still had enough talent on hand to place fourth at the Schuyler Invite Thursday.

Blair won just one event, but used its overall depth to take the team title with 120 points. Columbus Scotus was second with 101 points.

The Monarchs scored 76 points. They did so without junior hurdler/sprinter Mary Klosterman, who missed the meet due to illness.

Aquinas did pick up a pair of victories Thursday.

Junior Cortny Novacek went 4'10" to take the high jump.Freshman Brooke Anderson won the 3,200 with a time of 13:10.6.

One of Thursday's Monarch highlights came in the discus. Gabi Comte placed second with a throw of 107'5" while Bre Romshek placed third with a throw of 104'.

Amanda Novacek went 15'8 1/4" to place third in the long jump.

Katie Holoubek tied for fourth in the high jump, one of four individual fourth-place finishes for Aquinas. Amy Kreikemeier (triple jump), Kristine Fiala (pole vault and Megan Engel (100 hurdles) had the others.

The Monarchs also got fourth-place finishes from the 3,200 relay team of Anderson, Norah Hilger, Rachel Stara and Fiala, the 1,600 relay team of Kreikemeier, Amanda Novacek, Laura Engel and Megan Engel and the 400 relay team of Engel, Caitlin Klosterman, Cassie Amsler and Amy Kreikemeier.

Aquinas hosts its own invite Friday. The Monarchs join East Butler at the Bergan Invite next Tuesday.
