The Rising City Public Schools' process of conducting a straw poll regarding its future merger plans began last week.

Registered voters residing in the Rising City Public Schools District should have received their ballots by Thursday, Feb. 25, and before that, an informational letter.

Superintendent Michael Derr provided the information to The Banner-Press on Monday.

The school board on Feb. 15 approved the straw poll after reaching an impasse among the board members on whether to merge with David City or Shelby after the 2010-11 school year.

Derr said that ballots must be postmarked by March 9 in order to be included in the tabulations. The results will be presented at the board's March 15 meeting, Derr said.

Derr said that any registered voter residing in the RCPS district who did not receive a ballot should contact the school.

Last fall, the school district requested merger proposals from David City and Shelby after it appeared last summer that the district was committed to a merger with David City.
