PAYSON, Ariz. -- Donald "Don" Shreckengost, 82, of Payson, Ariz., formerly of Rising City, died Saturday, May 30, 2009, in Payson.

Butler County Abstract Company has new owners

Joan Riha can recite the details of where her eight grandkids are in their young lives, whether they are taking on a new job or finishing college.

It's probably no surprise she is keenly aware of the details. She's been doing detail work as owner of Butler County Abstract Company for 37 years. Now she'll soon be busy visiting her grandkids' graduations and weddings.

Last week she prepared to retire as she sold her company to Greg and Lori Aschoff, who have renamed the company Butler County Title & Escrow. The company's office is at 373 E St.

Osceola man arrested on suspicion of DUI third offense

An Osceola man was arrested early Thursday morning and jailed on suspicion of third offense drunken driving, according to a report from the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.
 
Butler County dispatchers received a call about 7:25 a.m. Thursday about a report of a car blocking a driveway in the area of County Road 44 and County Road E.

Certain Conservation Reserve Program contracts extended

WASHINGTON - Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced today that USDA's Farm Service Agency (FSA) will offer certain producers the opportunity to modify and extend their Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) contracts that are scheduled to expire on Sept. 30, 2009.

USDA can only extend approximately 1.5 million acres out of a total 3.9 million acres expiring this year. This extension will ensure that FSA meets the statutory CRP acreage limitation of 32 million acres established in the Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008.

The outbreak of an illness in people caused by a new influenza virus H1N1 (of swine origin) continues to grow in the United States and internationally. CDC reports additional confirmed human infections, hospitalizations and the nation’s first fatality on April 29   from this outbreak.
